Every once in a while, a project comes along where everything comes together exactly as envisioned. This Ponte Vedra, FL wine cellar is one of those projects. A new construction build from the ground up. This cellar gave us the rare opportunity to be part of the design process from day one. I think the results speak for themselves.
Whether you’re a seasoned collector or just starting to explore home cellars, this project masterfully blends function with elegance. Here’s a closer look at what went into it.
The Vision: New Construction, Full Creative Freedom
One major advantage of new construction: you can design the cellar before the walls go up. There’s no retrofitting, no working around existing architecture — just a blank canvas and a vision. Partnering with the contractor and designer from the start, we planned every detail with precision — layout, lighting, framing, and door placement.
The result is a cellar that feels intentional in every corner, because it was.
What’s Inside: A Breakdown of the Racking Systems
This cellar features three distinct racking systems, each chosen to balance practicality with visual impact:
- Standard Cable Wine Racking
Clean, minimal, and modern. Cable racking suspends bottles between horizontal cables, creating a floating effect that keeps the focus on the wine itself. It’s one of our most popular systems for collectors who want a contemporary aesthetic without sacrificing capacity. - ULTRA Wine Walls with Triple Deep Pegs & Showcase Display Rows
The ULTRA Wine Wall system delivers maximum storage density and visual drama. Triple deep pegs hold three bottles each, dramatically increasing capacity without expanding the footprint. Showcase display rows let you feature select bottles label-forward or at a slight angle for a gallery-style presentation. - Solid Custom Wood Racking
For the sections calling for a warmer, more traditional feel, we used solid Premium Redwood racking finished with a rich Black Stain and sealed with Lacquer. Redwood is a natural choice for wine cellars: it’s aromatic, resistant to moisture, and ages beautifully. The black stain adds a bold, modern contrast that ties the whole design together.
The Entrance: Glass Door & Sidelite by RenaissanceGSB
The entry to a wine cellar sets the tone for everything inside. For this project, we partnered with RenaissanceGSB for a custom glass door and sidelite combination. The glass entry does more than look stunning — it frames the cellar’s interior, turning the collection into a living display. Whether you’re entertaining guests or simply passing by, it offers a constant, enticing glimpse of what waits inside.
Capacity: Built to Grow With Your Collection
This cellar has an estimated storage capacity of 500+ standard 750mL bottles. Between the high-density ULTRA Wine Walls, the cable racking, and the solid wood sections, there’s room for a serious and growing collection. Whether you collect Napa Cabernets, Burgundy Pinots, or a curated mix of international varietals, this cellar handles it all — with room to spare.
What’s Next: Waiting for the First Bottle
The broader construction of the home is still in its final stages, which means this cellar is sitting pristine and empty — for now. There’s something quietly exciting about a cellar in that state: all the craftsmanship is on full display, every peg and cable perfectly in place, just waiting for the first bottle to be set in. We can’t wait to see it filled.
